It is difficult to write what a great honor it is for me that the Django Software Foundation has awarded me the 2022 Malcolm Tredinnick Memorial Prize when it was announced to me via email by Anna Makarudze I was not sure how this was possible.

The two years leading up to this one were very difficult for me, but this last one I’ve been trying to make up for lost time and get back to participating in the life of the Django community in person. I have to admit that it was a reward just that I was able to meet so many amazing members of our community again, each of whom deserves this award.

Of course, I’m happy that what I tried to do for Django was appreciated, and I thank Sarah Abderemane, not only for the wonderful words she wrote in the nomination, but also for her great commitment to Django, she is a valuable member of our community, and I was very pleased to have met her in person during DjangoCon Europe 2022 in Porto.

Sadly, I didn’t meet Malcolm Tredinnick personally, but his presence in our community is still strong, as I see that he has inspired so many people to follow his example. I also hope in my small way to be an inspiration to many other members of the community, as have all the previous winners of the Malcolm Tredinnick Memorial Prize, who, funny to say, this year I met almost all of them in person.

For this article, I chose this photo taken during the evening party of DjangoCon Europe 2022 held in Porto (Portugal) because I am together with Adam Johnson who is the winner of the 2021 award. It almost seems like a passing of the torch. I’m also hoping to meet next year’s award winner, but I think it’s super easy given how many amazing people there are in our community.

Of course, this award motivates me to contribute even more to Django and participate in many of our community events, so I look forward to seeing you in person soon.
